The Chester County Barn is synonymous with the history and charm of our
surroundings. It represents the heritage of this enchanting, bucolic area. Did
you know that Chester County was one of the three original counties in
Pennsylvania created by William Penn in 1682? In 1840, when our Barn was built,
people were traveling by horseback or wagon over the covered bridges to their
farms.
Without disturbing the integrity of our old Barn, we've added a modern glass
house to hold our collection of annuals and house plants. The complementary
juxtaposition of architecture is dramatic and spectacular. Enter the
technologically advanced glass house and experience the "living" building whose
computers open and close windows and shades automatically depending on the sun
and temperature outside. Inside, music sets an ethereal mood for your stroll in
the greenhouse where you can smell the herbs, feel the warmth and see the
glorious colors of flowers.
Then, step into the Barn and you're back in the 19th century. Housing our
unique, accessible collection of home furnishings, the barn is the perfect
backdrop for couches, lamps, paintings, mirrors, and clocks. There ’s always
something new to grace your table, set the mood in your den or accent your
dining room. You can feel the history as you walk through the rooms with their
stone floors and walls. Climb the wooden stairs to the lofts with their seasonal
merchandise; you can almost smell the hay.
Come into the Barn at Gardners and experience something different.
